The Book of Revelation Made Clear Review

Jeff
Lately, our household has had some interesting talks and questions about topic end times. This arose after watching a video about the blood moon and its possible connection with things prophesied in the book of Revelation and after the recent showing of the movie Left Behind.

Topics about prophecy and eschatology are difficult to discuss and teach about even as a man who has read and taught about it. Thanks to "The Book of Revelation Made Clear: A Down-to-Earth Guide to Understanding the Most Mysterious Book of the Bible" by Tim LaHaye and Timothy Parker, Revelation can now be understood easier.

"Surfing for God: Discovering the Divine Desire Beneath Sexual Struggle" by Michael Cusick | Book Review

Jeff
One of the best books I read last year was "Surfing for God: Discovering the Divine Desire Beneath Sexual Struggle" by Michael Cusick, thus, this book review.  The subtitle describes the book so well, because the book will help its readers understand sexual or porn addiction, and struggles by digging deeper and seeing sexual brokenness as more than "seeking and experiencing pleasure" but reaching "toward something we cannot see, touch, or comprehend on the physical level", (Chapter 2). It moves from merely understanding the inner struggle towards breaking free from the bondage of pornography and sexual sin.

Amie Streater's "Your Money God's Way" Book Review

Jeff
As I review this book “Your Money God’s Way” by author Amie Streater I see a different approach to money management education. The author writes from experience and focuses on seven money myths or misconceptions which keep believers under financial bondage. Although the book is targeting Christians, the principles shared are for everyone.

Amie Streater's "Your Money God's Way"

Doing Amie Streater’s “Your Money God’s Way” book review is easy because I enjoyed the book. The principles she shared on stewardship backed up by stories from her own life, I believe, can hold a reader’s attention. She presents the principles she wrote by contrasting Biblical principles against what many believers believe to be right.

I would recommend this book to those who want to get out of debt, build wealth, gain financial freedom and stay that way for the rest of their lives. “Your Money God’s Way” successfully conveys Biblical truth about stewardship and how God is concerned about His children’s financial welfare.

I am thankful to have added this book in my library and am excited to teach on stewardship again. I look forward to reviewing other books from Thomas Nelson after Amie Streater’s “Your Money God’s Way” book review.

Disclosure: I received this book from Thomas Nelson Publishing for review purposes. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own.

"Outlive Your Life" by Max Lucado | Book Review

Jeff
This review of “Outlive Your Life” by author Max Lucado is one that I enjoyed doing the most from the books I read during the past year. It is one of the books from Thomas Nelson. The title of the book itself is challenging. It is a book about making your life count for the world and leaving a legacy.

Front cover of "Outlive Your Life by Max Lucado

This book by a great author and story teller Max Lucado, "Outlive Your Life" with subtitle You Were Made to Make a Difference is a book that challenged me to look at the needs around me - the immediate community and the world. As a pastor of a 7-year old church who have also gone to missions trips locally and internationally, I was still compelled by the updated statistics about poverty around the world were presented in the beginning. It challenged me to continue what I am doing and inspired me to think of innovative ways to impact my surrounding community. I would recommend this book to those who feel that life is boring, dragging and tired of finding purpose in things that are shallow.

If there is a book that I could use to preach on and get illustrations, Max Lucados’s “Outlive Your Life” is one of them and I am glad that I was given an opportunity to write this book review for Thomas Nelson.

My WIfe Got Me a Black ASUS 1005HA and I'm Excited to Write a Review

Jeff
I am happy with the Anniversary and Christmas gift I received from my wife - a black ASUS 1005HA (Eee PC). I got its memory upgraded to 2GB and will write a review of it soon.

The Black ASUS 1005 HA (Eee PC)

Our two main considerations for getting an ASUS 1005HA is its promised battery life of 10.5 hours. But I am a skeptic. I will be posting a review and will highlight this feature.

Because of this gift, I do not wish to receive any other gifts anymore even though I did think about getting Cole Haan shoes, or an Apple iPhone or a Nokia 5800. Right now, I am very satisfied with my ASUS 1005HA and am excited to share my personal review.

Canon IXUS 110 IS Review, Specifications and Personal Impression

Jeff
Yesterday I met with a friend to return a Canon IXUS 110 IS digital camera that was lent to my wife for her to review. This Canon digital camera shoots a maximum of 12.1 megapixels and that's large for the small size of its body. The PureColor LCD II screen is quite large at 2.8 inches with a 16:9 aspect ration so pictures taken can be seen clearly.

Available colors for the Canon IXUS 110 IS

The Canon Digital IXUS 110 IS was lent for seven days to us and it came with an sd card, a rechargeable lithium ion battery and a battery charger. One great thing about its specifications is its wide-angle zoom lens that has a focal range of 28-112mm and 4x optical zoom. This premium point-and-shoot digital camera is very attractive and easy to carry around. Its great for macro shots as you can move the lens as close to the subject and still get a very clear and crisp shot.

The Canon IXUS 110 IS has a 2.8" PureColor LCD II

For a point-and-shoot digital camera, this one is able to shoot HD videos at 1280x720 pixels at 30 frames per second (fps). It has 18 pre-set modes which delivers good results and has a Digic 4 processor. When I used the Canon IXUS 110 IS to take pictures in the 2009 Honda Challenge Cup last week I was generally satisfied with its performance. It is perfect for fast paced events when you can't afford to make adjustments in your camera.

The only two exceptions for my satisfaction are that 1)its battery life is not that long. It would not last until evening if you started using it continuously from early morning, 2) and with continuous use, you can feel its body slightly heating up or starting to feel warm. But, the first exception can be remedied if you had an extra battery while the second one does not at all affect the quality of the pictures you take. The Canon Digital IXUS 110 IS is available in the Philippines for a suggested retail price of (PHP) P23,950.00.

Asus Eee PC 1000H, Lenovo S10, MSI Wind Reviews

Jeff
My family and I went to SM Marikina to get a few groceries and buy some photo paper so we went to the mall's Cyberzone. As we went there, I couldn't keep myself from looking for an Asus N10J. But instead of finding the Asus N10J what I found was the Asus EeePC 1000H.

Let me say first that all netbooks I'll be mentioning in this post are the ones that carry the Intel Atom N270 processor. Now, with that aside, let as start by comparing Asus EeePC 1000H with the MSI Wind and the Lenovo S10. Below are the specifications of what I have found and their prices.

The source is from a local computer store in the Philippines, but there are links below to reviews from one web site using a single method to compare Asus Eee PC 1000H, MSI Wind and Lenovo S10.

The source of these specifications and prices are from the same store. One additional thing to note - the store that provided this information offers and upgrade option: ...all Intel Atom powered netbooks purchased between October 1, 2008 and December 30, 2008 is eligible for a chassis upgrade (charge is based on difference in prices between the new chassis and the original chassis) to handle New Intel® Atom™ 330 platform, the dual core Atom processor. I am still about to explore what this means and I will be doing so before I make a purchase this December.

Below are links to reviews using the same standards courtesy of notebookreview.com:

Asus Eee PC 1000H review
Lenovo S10 review
MSI Wind review

Based on the reviews, I read that Asus Ee PC 1000H had the best performance. I guess that's why it is the most expensive among the three netbooks. So far, after looking out for the best netbook that carries the Intel Atom, so far, my mind has changed and I plan to buy the Asus Eee PC 1000H (a cheaper 1000HA model will be coming out soon which is the same netbook without the bluetooth and the n wireless capability).

But if I had more dough I would choose the Asus N10J for its longer battery life and dedicated 256MB video memory option.

My Comparison of MSI Wind and Lenovo S10

Jeff
After spending a few minutes online searching some reviews about mini-notebooks, I found one at notebookreview.com and was able to compare the Lenovo IdeaPad S10 and MSI Wind. There are other units that compete with these, actually, and they are Asus eePC and Acer Aspire One. Well, after doing a little research I have come to the conclusion of still buying an MSI Wind this December. There are actually many things to compare but some main reasons are because MSI Wind has four USB slots as compared to only two for Lenovo S10, the Lenovo S10 heats up on your lap more than the MSI Wind and as for looks, the MSI WInd has a business look to it comapred to the Lenovo's 'toy like' appearance. As for their performance, review say that MSI Wind is better than Lenovo S10using the wPrime processor comparison results (lower scores mean better performance) in which the former scored 124.656 seconds while the latter 127.172 seconds.

You would notice that I only mentioned the MSI Winds advantages over the Lenovo and that is because I have had the intention of getting the Wind even before (if you would look at my blog's July and August archives) so I was finding its advantages over the new released mini-notebook.

But, a great thing that I read was that Intel will be releasing (or maybe has released) a dual-core Atom processor which is an upgrade of the mini-notebooks that use the Intel Atom processor (the single-core was Atom N270 and the dual-core is Atom 330). And I have seen in the store where I plan to buy that they are providing an option for the upgrade for MSI Wind purchased between October to December 2008.

I am still open, though, in case new releases of mini-notebooks are made with talks that HP and Dell will be releasing their Atom powered notebooks before 2009.
