City Kart Racing is Where You Can Go Kart Racing In Metro Manila

Jeff
City Kart Racing is the place where you can go kart racing in Metro Manila, Philippines, particularly in the City of Makati. It is right in the heart of the Makati business district - on Level 7 of Park Square 1. Yes, it may not seem to be a place where you can find a race track because you would think that all the cars in that building will be parked. Well, they are, but there is a floor dedicated solely for burning rubber and for giving you that adrenaline rush when you race.

Blogger Blaze 2011

Those who went kart racing in Metro Manila used to do so in City Kart Racing's previous location which was along SLEX but they have already transferred. Actually, last Saturday, I was able to try out their Fun Karts which you can rent for 12 minutes on their track (about 10-11 laps if you can do about a minute per lap) for only PHP 560. They also have a Pro Kart available for PHP 700 per heat. I tried it out with other bloggers who were invited to the City Kart Racing Blogger Blaze 2011. We were all given a free balaclava, usually costs PHP 150, to use under our helmets. Racers can also opt to wear overalls to really get a feel of a real racing experience.

Wearing a balaclava (also available in orange, green and pink)

All of us bloggers, around thirty in number, were grouped into 3 groups of 10 and tried out one heat on the fun kart. In each heat, there were about 10 racers in the track trying to accomplish their best time.

It was fun and exciting indeed especially when I found out after our turn ended that I had the best time in our heat.

About to make a U-turn

The most awesome thing about City Kart Racing is that they have integrated the race on the track to their City Kart Racing Facebook app. The cool thing about this is that every time you finish a heat, two things happen. First, your best time for that heat is automatically posted on your FB wall. So when you use their facilities for the first time, you will be asked to register with your Facebook account details. Second, you will automatically receive an email of your race stats which include details as your best time, your time for each lap, your average time for all the laps in that heat and a history of your best times compared to other people who raced that day, the past week or even the past month. Their FB app actually has the capability to show you your race stats compared to other people's stats as well, FB friends or not.

Moving on, after getting our individual best times, we were then grouped into 10 groups of three for some team racing. Each team was composed of individuals with fast, average and not so fast times based on the first three heats in the Blogger Blaze 2011. In this team event, each group was given an hour in the track where each member spent 10 minutes and then replaced by another team member and so on until the 60 minutes of race time is over. The team who made the most number of laps won. Our team, Sharpshooters, won third place and had 46.715 seconds as our best time. Team Extraodinary placed second and Tsikot.com were the champions.

We Celebrated SBC Makati's 6th Church Anniversary!

Jeff

Yesterday, we celebrated the 6th Anniversary of our church, Sumulong Baptist Church - Makati and our anniversary theme was "Come to the Father". It was May 25, 2003 when we held the first service at the church and since then, we have reached out to different parts of Makati City and now have members and attenders residing in different areas of the city, namely, Barangay Pitogo, Baangay Cembo, Barangay Pinagkaisahan, Barangay Rizal, Barangay Comembo, Barangay Guadalupe Nuevo, Barangay Guadalupe Viejo and Barangay Bangkal.

This past year was a year that God showed his faithfulness through His provision for the needs of our church members who also generously give to support our ministry. The greatest miracles were, first, the reduction of our rent from P35,000 a month to P25,000 a month. We renewed our previous 5-year contract at the lower rate and locked in for at least a year. The second miracle was our church was able to raise enough funds to purchase a video projector. Even though most of our church members are part of our feeding program, the small contributions each member gave made the purchase of the projector possible.

Our youth ministry has also had more outreach opportunities this year as 5 high schools of Makati City accepted our invitation for summer camp. In our youth services, students who came to camp are now faithfully attending and are currently undergoing discipleship.

This year, one of the areas we hope to strengthen is our adult outreach and ministry. We are praying that more adults would get involved in our church ministries and that more men would be added to the church. Please continue praying for our ministry in Makati.

Promoting "Call of Duty: World at War" Summer Youth Camp 2009

Jeff

This past week, I have been really busy going around Makati City, to the different high schools. This was due to our promotion for “Call of Duty: World at War” (Ephesians 6:1-20), the upcoming summer youth camp which will be held on April 21-24, 2009 at Mt. Peniel camp site in Capas, Tarlac. This is organized by Camp Kabataan and Breaking Point Foundation (abusepreventionteam.org) and we are expecting about 800 participants from Rizal, Makati City, Pasig City, Quezon City and Manila.

The camp fee was originally P1,550 per person but thanks to our local and international partners, we were able to offer it at P400 per camper. The fee includes air-conditioned bus to and from the camp site, accommodations and food from April 21 (dinner) to April 24 (brunch).

The travel to different schools could have been made easier if I had MBT shoes because I decided to take public transportation rather than bring my own car to save on gas. I and some of our youth in the church were able to distribute letters of invitation to the nine Supreme Student Government (SSG) advisers of Makati City. We hope that this week, we would be able to get confirmation on the number of delegates (incoming SSG officers) they will be sending from their school.

If this materializes, then I estimate that we will be sending about 120 campers (two buses) as Makati delegates. We hope that this would also allow us to develop a good relationship with the public high schools of Makati City.

On Starting a Christian School in Makati That Uses the School of Tomorrow System

Jeff
Our intention to start a Christian school using the School of Tomorrow system in our church in Makati has never died. Actually, when my wife and I began researching about schools two years ago because of our now three-year-old son, the desire to start a school continued to grow. I saw to it that I learned the School of Tomorrow system so I did everything to convince our senior pastor to send me to the administrator’s training.

I have been exposed to Christian schools using the School of Tomorrow system (also known as Accelerated Christian Education) before and have been impressed with students who studied using this system. That’s why I wanted to learn the philosophy and the methodology of this system which uses an individualized curriculum per student.

Even though our church encountered some Startups & Growth Challenges, the reason why we haven’t started the school yet, we still want to pursue this direction for our ministry. We want to provide an alternative to parents in Makati for their child’s education and we want to be able to provide quality academics guaranteed by the School of Tomorrow system.

How is this guaranteed? You see, students entering the system are given a diagnostic test (for both entering a school and the home schooled. They are then placed in the curriculum in each subject at their own pace and performance levels which are determined by the results of the diagnostic test. The format of the School of Tomorrow (SOT) curriculum allows the students to advance as they demonstrate mastery – a key component in the SOT system. The system generally requires 80% (90% for model schools) grade in the exams before a student advances to another unit in the curriculum.

But aside from academics, we want our school to provide education that helps develop children into individuals who will make their relationship with God and their personal responsibilities to their family, church and community a priority in life. Character building is another important component of this system and curriculum which is founded on theistic philosophy.

So, right now I am in the process of fulfilling other requirements of SOT Philippines so we can start working on starting a Christian school that uses the School of Tomorrow system.
