I Bought A Domain Through Google and Got Very Bad Service

Jeff

Today (and yesterday) Google really got into my nerves. And I don't know where else to vent it out but here. For the past two months I have bought domains through Google to transform two of my blogspot blogs to my own domain (footballvideosandpictures.com and aspacio.net). So two days ago I was again inspired and so excited to start a new blog, especially excited because I really worked hard on tweaking the template I downloaded from eblogtemplates.com, and so I got so inspired that I decided to buy a domain name. And since the domain name I wanted was still available I immediately purchased it and knowing that buying through Google would save me the hassle of setting it up.

But I was wrong! I bought a domain through Google and got very bad service. In fairness to Google, what I am about to share is actually the first time. During the first two times I bought a domain from them, everything worked out well. But this third time, during the check out and confirmation of my payment, I got an error message. After refreshing the page two or three times and receiving error messages I decided to close the tab and checked my email in another tab. There was an email confirmation of my order. Then after a few minutes, I received a confirmation of the purchase.

What usually happens is when you buy a domain from Google, (through your blogger dashboard>settings>publishing>click custom domain>under 'buy a domain for your blog') you pay for your chosen domain, if it's available, and you get a confirmation of the payment after check out and then it returns to the same page when you click custom domain and your blogspot blog would start publishing using your new domain.

In my case, because of the errors I received, I gave up on refreshing the page because I was also afraid that each reload would be another charge for my domain name purchase.

Now, even though I own the domain, I can't use it on my new blog because when I type the domain name I bought it would prompt that the domain is being hosted in another blog. Oooooh, that really gets to my nerves. See, I could've bought a domain name for a little less than $7 from name.com instead of getting it at $10 through Google but I would have had to set it up myself. But I didn't want that so I bought one from Google, coz I didn't want to pay for hosting and I wanted to have it hosted at blogger.

With that said, I am now planning to follow up my refund request. Yes, I finally decided that I should just stay with not using a custom domain for my new blog but I refuse to not get a refund.

The other problem with Google is that they don't give their subscribers a way to contact them. Either those who complain are redirected to other people filing their complains in Google groups or they are forced to search and read related issues in Google's help pages. I guess that is also another way of Google to stay untouchable. But I'm still going to give them a chance to resolve this. I don't know how but I need to - just because I don't want to pay for hosting. I guess that's the bargain, a bad experience.

More Photographs From Palawan

Jeff
After our scheduled Breaking Point programs were finished, we went to two beaches in Palawan just to take some pictures. We didn't swim in these beaches because we were scheduled to go island hopping the next day.

In the first beach (Dangkalan resort) we went to there were some children playing during the low tide.

Got A Quirky Question to Ask?

Jeff
Have you ever asked yourself the question, ”Are You Normal or Nuts?” Well, each one of us has his or her own weird thing that he or she does. I read from the web site of Reader's Digest some psychology articles about people asking their quirky questions and a professional answer is posted, answering the question, “Are You Normal or Nuts?

One of the articles that I found interesting was the person who shared about how she has to use things until they wear out before getting new ones. I think that she is a good steward of what she has acquired and is very wise. I agree with the response given that most people buy and waste.

Actually, I have that tendency to hoard or to keep on buying stuff, even stuff I do not really need. I am glad that my wife balanced this habit out with her frugality. I admire her a lot for being that way and appreciate that she complements me in this area.

You can try visiting the Reader's Digest Laughs or their psychology articles, read and even share your own quirky question. You may even get a great response from professionals. It’s like you’re getting free counseling online for the whole world to see.

I Got My Own Domain: aspacio.net

Jeff
I am excited about my new domain aspacio.net. Although I would really have preferred aspacio.com over it except that it isn't available anymore. First, I thought about getting a domain for my whole name but then I thought about being able to pass it on to my son when I leave this world.

Anyway, I am asking my friends who visit regularly to please update my url in your blogroll or link list to aspacio.net. I would gladly appreciate it!

Get That Carpal Tunnel Relief!

Jeff
One of the things my wife and I have as our form of bonding is blogging. Yes, we blog simultaneously from different workstations. She from her laptop and me from my desktop in our makeshift workstation inside our living room. We would sometimes throw each other chat messages from across our email accounts and send files to our network places. I would not have thought that this kind of office romance can also be possible even after marriage – and I am glad.

But lately, the wifey has been complaining of persistent pain around her right hand. We both knew it is the more than twelve hours of staying online everyday taking its toll on her poor wrist. Can you believe that she actually is able to drop an average of 850 entrecards a day! This is aside from the blogging that she primarily does. She only drops cards in between blogging. But mind you, these are not everything that she does. She juggles things around the house too and takes care of our little guy.

This is one of the reasons we are actually looking into buying IMAK's carpal tunnel relief. I would not want to have her endure the pain she feels because I know how much she loves writing and doing what she does when she is online. Apparently, this wonder discovery is not just a solution to carpal tunnel syndrome but also for arthritis, which my wife also experiences from time to time. I know there are a million bloggers online who could relate to my wife's current wrist health. Check out Smart Glove by IMAK.

On SEO and DiscountClick.com

Jeff
The wifey and I have been immersed into internet marketing for two thirds of the year now. It is one of my future goals to learn more about search engine optimization and other areas of internet marketing which is so vast.

DiscountClick.com offers affordable search engine promotion and other SEO services like link popularity campaigns. They even have affordable list management facility which will give me the edge in the future business I have been considering. Learning the ropes of internet marketing is a real challenge and this site makes things easier for those who would want to get their site optimized.

What's Cooking?

Jeff
So what’s cooking? Well, it is the Fifth Annual Great American Seafood Cook-Off as presented by Louisiana Seafood Promotion & Marketing Board (LSPMB) and NOAA (National Oceanic and Atmospheric Association). This event is on August 2 and 3 where chef’s from different states compete to win the title of King of American Seafood.

This Cook Off event, which is one of America’s most prestigious culinary competitions, promotes the positiveness of domestic seafood sustainability. The benefits of having a domestic source is first, the source of what people place on their plates is known. Second, it is fresh and local. Visit their site now.

A Stretch In Blogging

Jeff
Whew! Earning money is hard! That was one of the reasons why I started blogging - because I heard that people could make money through it. And I found out that it was true. But yesterday and today, I faced two paid opportunities that really challenged me. They are actually the two entries sandwiching this one. I really felt like I had to stretch my mind and creativity to do it before the opps expired. And I do agree with those who commented on these two opportunities (found in the paid-to-blog service where I got them). The pay for the two opps are not commensurate to the effort and thinking required. But, that's life. We earn through blogging that way, grabbing small opportunities and pile them up to get an additional $800++ a month. I hope that the advertiser would give a bonus or something like that.

A Great Cook Off

Jeff
Below is my video taken by my wife for the Great American Seafood Cook Off. I am excited for this Cook Off which is being be held on August 2-3 because I like contests. Contests bring out the best in people. And in this case, the best chef. Also, in this event, the positiveness of domestic seafood sustainability is promoted knowing that the available seafood is fresh and the source is known.

I am excited to find out who the winning chef will be and from which US state he would be from. I also hope the best for the one who will win the Great American Seafood Mascot Video Challenge Contest.

Waiting For the Wind

Jeff

Yup, it's me but nope this is not the MSI Wind I wrote about. This is my wife's MSI Megabook. Being into blogging and trying to make money form it while being mobile has really created the need for us to both invest on notebooks. I can't wait to get my hands on one. Probably for about 5 to 6 months I'll be able to enjoy and take advantage of the Wind; for blogging but primarily for the other stuff I work on even as I travel from our main office in Antipolo to my office in Makati. I hope the Wind would be here soon.
