A Great Wall Peri for My Wife

Jeff
Last Monday, we bought a brand new Great Wall Peri, another first in our family and I had to make sure to drive away from the Veteran's Hospital to keep from the possibility of being hit by flying used golf balls. Great Wall is a Chinese brand of cars that utilizes German technology (Bosch), whose pick up trucks have been top sellers in China for the past 11 years and whose SUVs, top sellers for the past 6 years.

Jennie and her new baby, "Lady Rouge"

The Great Wall Peri is a compact car and one of the sedans that Great Wall Motor released in an attempt to dominate the Chinese sedan line. Six models (Wingle, Hover, Florid, Cowry, Peri and the Cool Bear) were released late last year and our family saw the Peri as the best model that fit our taste and budget.

It was a blessing that my wife was able to get a job as a virtual assistant. It was a great opportunity given her after being struck by a calamity in September of 2009 . Oh, how God has returned the losses! She now works as a secretary of a CEO in the US for only four hours a day and we were able to save the income that is generated from her job. We were able to raise in the down payment and have the rest of the balance financed by a private individual. Hopefully we’d be able to pay off the balance in two years or even earlier with our ongoing online campaigns our blogs.

So far, I am very satisfied with the smooth ride in our Great Wall Peri which will be driven by my wife most of the time. The compact car is a great buy at an SRP of PHP 495,000 yet fully equipped with a 1.3-liter engine (great power-t-weight ratio for its size), EURO 4 compliant, dual air bags, ABS+EBD, side impact beams, power steering, power windows (front), power door lock, keyless entry, engine electronic anti-theft system, with front and rear fog lamps, 14” alloy magwheels and rear spoiler.

Since Monday, we have been driving in (breaking in) the car and we’re just glad that it is under warranty for three years or for 100,000 km of driving, whichever comes first. If you are looking for a compact car that is affordable but has better or comparable features than other popular brands then you should try the Great Wall Peri which is available in Great Wall North Edsa (gwcars.ph) and Alabang.

Gray Hair and Wrinkles

Jeff
Lately, my wife has been noticing the many gray hairs on the sides of my head. Before, I used to just ignore them but since my wife has been noticing them I suddenly became concerned. She used to just ignore them, too.

But just this morning she recommended that I visit the barber shop and have my hair colored black. Pretty soon she might start noticing the wrinkles on my face and recommending a wrinkle cream.
One passage I like that relates to all these is Proverbs 16:31 where it says, “Gray hair is a crown of splendor; it is attained by a righteous life.” I just hope that the gray hairs growing on my head would be associated with the years of experience in life and the many people I have influenced for God through my life and my teaching.

Just Some thoughts About Hair Loss

Jeff
I’m glad that we do not have it in our genes – baldness during the 40s and older ages. I remember my father when I was still in my elementary and high school years. He still had lots of hair while many of his friends had lots of hair gone.

Actually, hair loss for women is also common but we just do not see a lot of ladies compared to men. That’s why it is really important to keep yourself updated about the different health and beauty information so you can also keep up with the latest.

Mosbeau Introduces Mosbeau Placenta White: Skin Whitening with Placental Protein

Jeff
Last Monday, I was introduced to a unique skin whitening product called Mosbeau Placenta White. The product features a component that is new to skin products - the Placental Protein. This new skin product which is not necessarily an acne cleanser,is manufactured from Japan where high quality products come from.

Below is the official Press Release of Mosbeau Placenta White.

Protein for skin is in!

Meet the latest buzzword in skin whitening, Placental Protein—the ingredient that is considered as the “next big thing” in the industry of health and beauty care.

Widely known in Japan for its superior whitening properties, Placental Protein is used in cosmetics and dermatological preparations as it has the ability to speed up skin renewal, making the skin look fairer and more radiantly youthful. With the advent of this revolutionary component, it is now commonly used in clinics, and is infused in topical products, supplements, and injectibles.

But going beyond whitening, it has also been revered by many cultures for its skin-healing effects.

While it actively inhibits melanin growth, placenta’s unique biological components, such as active enzymes, vitamins, and anti-oxidants that stimulate skin cell renewal and slow down skin aging process, make it effective in revitalizing the skin and reducing the appearance of wrinkles and fine lines.

“Placental Protein – better than Glutathione?”
At the onset, as Placental Protein penetrates the world of skin whitening, experts say that this ingredient may already outdo the very popular skin whitening ingredient Glutathione.

Such premise was validated by studies conducted in Japan, where it compared the two whitening ingredients, with the results showing that Placental Protein is twice as active as Glutathione in terms of slowing down the enzyme tyrosinase, with 63% inhibitory effect, as opposed to the latter’s 32% tyrosinase control.

Of this, Masachika Hattori, Chief Chemist from Mosbeau Inc. in Tokyo, Japan says: “Glutathione, though renowned for its anti-oxidant properties that contribute to good liver function, is not recognized in Japan as a skin-whitening ingredient. Placental Protein, on the other hand, is widely used in cosmetics preparation due to its exemplary skin-whitening effect.”

Today, Japan takes the most beautiful transforming ingredient to the Philippine shores via Mosbeau—a sensational skin whitening brand that offers two of its bestselling products: Mosbeau Placenta White and Mosbeau White Underarm & Inner Thigh Cream. These whiteners, available in beauty stores across Metro Manila, both contain the ingredient Placental Protein. Sourced from three generations of healthy pigs in Japan, Mosbeau’s Placental Protein is highly compatible with human skin. The type of placental extract used by Mosbeau is also the same kind used in clinics in Japan, ensuring that it is safe and effective.

Mosbeau introduces two breakthrough products in the Philippines
For Mosbeau’s Placenta White, it is the first placenta supplement in the country that effectively whitens skin, and cleanses the body system with its anti-oxidant properties that gives the skin a fairer, radiant glow from within.

Mosbeau’s CEO and founder, Mr. Mitsuharu Hayashi, shared that the introduction of this Placenta supplement in the Philippines aimed to create a cut above the rest of the skin-whitening products in the country, “We wanted to offer Filipinas other, if not better, option aside from Glutathione. Previously offered in Japan, Mosbeau Placenta White has been a tried and trusted skin-whitening supplement in Japan and we believe, considering that it has a breakthrough formulation and can deliver satisfactory results, that we will have the same overwhelming reception here in the Philippines”.

Mixed with Collagen, Vitamin C, Glutathione and Asparagus Extract there would be no need for other vitamin supplements to enhance its whitening and anti-aging effect once a tablet of Mosbeau Placenta White is taken.

In the case of Mosbeau White Underarm & Inner Thigh Cream, a liberal application to the skin would make anyone flaunt their radiant white skin in any season.

This cream, which contains Placental Protein, Daisy Flower Extract and other all-natural skin-whitening ingredients, specifically targets to whiten stubborn, dark areas such as the underarms, inner thighs, knees, elbows, areolas, and even other dark spots.

Aware of Filipinas usual dark underarm problems, Mosbeau’s President, Mr. Gerford Balderas, says: “Filipinas are naturally dark-skinned and most of them have dark underarm problems. As part of Mosbeau’s dedication to provide perfection to every Asian woman, we have come up with a breakthrough product that goes beyond whitening the skin’s surface. Unlike other products, Mosbeau White Underarm & Inner Thigh cream penetrates deep down the surface of the skin to provide effective and long lasting whitening effect to dark areas.”

Mosbeau guarantees that all products are 100% made in Japan—from research, clinical test, production and development, down to the packaging—thus providing its customers a high-quality whitening experience that transcends physical beauty.
###
Placenta White and White Underarm & Inner Thigh Cream are available at leading health & beauty stores and drug stores all over Metro Manila including Watsons, South Star Drug, Bench Fix Salon, PCX, Health Express, Rose Pharmacy and Health Food. The Mayweather vs Mosley Live Streaming Video

Jeff
The Mayweather vs Mosley live stream fight will surely be another important event in the 2010 boxing calendar. Althought it does not have the same luster as a Pacquiao vs Mayweather match, it does pit together great boxers.

Many will hope to watch Mayweather vs Mosley live streaming video and hopefully get to be the first few to see the fight between two great fighters who do not need hydroxycut to keep themselves fit to fight each other.

The match will be held at the MGM Grand Hotel Las Vegas on May 1, 2010 (US time) and May 2, 2010 (Philippine time). The Mayweather vs Shane Mosley live streaming video is available in HBO’s pay-per-view and you may get a chance to find it in sopcast, Youtube, Justin.tv or Ustream.

This will surely be one exciting match even as the winner may have the chance and opportunity to fight Many Pacquiao. I can’t wait to watch the Mayweather vs Mosley live stream video.

Learning to Handle Money

Jeff
Among the lessons I learned from books I read about managing finances, the one that was so new to me was the idea of becoming financially independent as early in your life as you can. Retirement is usually set according to one’s age. But this lesson I learned challenged me to try and retire at an age earlier than the usual retirement age of 60 to 65 years old.

One way of reaching this state, it said, was to save and invest your money. One practical application is taking advantage of the current life insurance rate and making it work for you by investing on it. It also suggest other ways to invest, which works on the principle of compounding interest. During these trying times, knowing how to handle money can help us in practical ways, but we must never forget that it is God who richly provides us with everything we need so we must look to Him first for our needs rather than our own skills, jobs and security.

Summer 2009 in Boracay

Jeff
The summer heat is here and I want to hit the beach! I miss Boracay and vividly remember our vacation there last year. It was when our son first started appreciating the beach. He used to be afraid of swimming or even playing in water. But our time in Bora changed all that.

Our summer in Boracay last year

We saw to it that we would not spend most of our day holed up in our room in the Taj Guesthouse with the roller blinds rolled down. Even though it rained in the afternoon we took time to enjoy the beach, walked the whole stretch of the Boracay beach and even visited the hotel where my wife and I had our honeymoon.

I just wish we could go back there this summer. But, we’ve already planned for a different vacation and that will be a new experience for the whole family this September.

Black Saturday Meditation 2010

Jeff
Here is another passage from Charles Spurgeon's devotional. This is an appropriate meditation for this Holy Week as most Filipinos focus on Jesus' passion and sacrifice.

"They took Jesus, and led Him away."
John 19:16

He had been all night in agony, He had spent the early morning at the hall of Caiaphas, He had been hurried from Caiaphas to Pilate, from Pilate to Herod, and from Herod back again to Pilate; He had, therefore, but little strength left, and yet neither refreshment nor rest were permitted Him. They were eager for His blood, and therefore led Him out to die, loaded with the cross. O dolorous procession! Well may Salem's daughters weep. My soul, do thou weep also.
What learn we here as we see our blessed Lord led forth? Do we not perceive that truth which was set forth in shadow by the scapegoat? Did not the high-priest bring the scapegoat, and put both his hands upon its head, confessing the sins of the people, that thus those sins might be laid upon the goat, and cease from the people? Then the goat was led away by a fit man into the wilderness, and it carried away the sins of the people, so that if they were sought for they could not be found. Now we see Jesus brought before the priests and rulers, who pronounce Him guilty; God Himself imputes our sins to Him, "the Lord hath laid on Him the iniquity of us all;" "He was made sin for us;" and, as the substitute for our guilt, bearing our sin upon His shoulders, represented by the cross; we see the great Scapegoat led away by the appointed officers of justice. Beloved, can you feel assured that He carried your sin? As you look at the cross upon His shoulders, does it represent your sin? There is one way by which you can tell whether He carried your sin or not. Have you laid your hand upon His head, confessed your sin, and trusted in Him? Then your sin lies not on you; it has all been transferred by blessed imputation to Christ, and He bears it on His shoulder as a load heavier than the cross.

Let not the picture vanish till you have rejoiced in your own deliverance, and adored the loving Redeemer upon whom your iniquities were laid.

Investing on Health Plans

Jeff
This year, we the group we belong to renewed our health insurance. The health card we use is Maxicare and it has been such a blessing these past seven years especially the times when my wife was hospitalized.

Like the Blue Cross Blue Shield NC, health plans are a good investment. It is one way to save money especially when sickness is frequent among family members.

On Good Friday, Religious Practices and the Bible

Jeff
Today is Good Friday, one day of the Holy Week, and it is the time of the year when many Filipinos, who are mostly religious, take time to do penance or pay for their sins. Sacrifices are done by each person in his or her own little way like going to different churches (known as the “Bisita Iglesia”). Others practice a different sacrifice by trying to replicate Christ’s passion, carrying their own crosses, some even going to the extent of having themselves nailed to the cross.

As a pastor, I see these practices and feel for the people who do them. Many of these people are sincere about finding peace with God because of past sins they have committed. Some honestly think of the grave decisions they have made in life like maybe getting an abortion, leaving a spouse behind but others may think of wrong doings like drinking and smoking Black and Mild and the like.

But what does the Bible say about these things? I realize that all of us are on our own spiritual journey and have our own ways of making peace with God, but what does Jesus say about all these?

Jesus said in John 14:6, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.” This is a statement where He claims that there is no other way - not religion, not a religious practice, and no other belief system is the way to God but through Him alone. For skeptics, this statement is an arrogant statement. But what about if we take a step back and evaluate Christ’s and the Bible’s claims? For those who already believe in Christ and the Bible, what about re-evaluating what we have done based on tradition and religious practices based on what Christ and the whole Bible says?

Below are passages from the Bible about this topic. Take time to read, consider these things and re-evaluate your own spiritual journey.

Hebrews 9:22 “In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.”

But whose blood sacrifice does God accept?

Romans 3:20-28 “Therefore no one will be declared righteous in His sight by observing the law; rather, through the law we become conscious of sin. 21 But now a righteousness from God, apart from law, has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. 22 This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. There is no difference, 23 for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God, 24 and are justified freely by His grace through the redemption that came by Christ Jesus. 25 God presented Him as a sacrifice of atonement, through faith in His blood. He did this to demonstrate His justice, because in His forbearance He had left the sins committed beforehand unpunished— 26 He did it to demonstrate his justice at the present time, so as to be just and the one who justifies those who have faith in Jesus. 27 Where, then, is boasting? It is excluded. On what principle? On that of observing the law? No, but on that of faith. 28 For we maintain that a man is justified by faith apart from observing the law.”

Ephesians 2:8-9 “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith — and this not from yourselves, it is the gift of God— 9 not by works, so that no one can boast.”

Titus 3:5 “…He saved us, not because of righteous things we had done, but because of His mercy.”

Galatians 2:16 “…Know that a man is not justified by observing the law, but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by observing the law, because by observing the law no one will be justified.”

We make peace with God by simply coming to Him and confessing our sins and asking forgiveness and recognizing that He will forgive us because Christ has already paid the only acceptable sacrifice for all man’s sins.

Romans 10:9-10 “That if you confess with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. 10 For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you confess and are saved.”

Romans 10:13 “For, ‘Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.’”

Right Before the Big Plunge

Jeff
The Level Up summer youth camp 2010 is just a few days away. This is a yearly gathering of youth from ages 13-30 years old from different parts of Metro Manila and Rizal, organized by Camp Kabataan which is a synergy of different youth organizations who share the same desire, that is, to help make a better community by teaching youth moral values through age-appropriate activities.

As this year’s camp director, I am now getting ready to prepare some Kipling luggage to put my things and other important stuff. Most of the camp preparations were already undertaken by the different teams of volunteers under a variety of committees. I am enjoying the two holidays of the Holy Week and hopefully it would be a time to recharge before the big plunge.
