Getting Back to the 80s

Jeff
During the late 80s, when I was still in my high school years, some of the movies that I really liked were that of Andrew McCarthy who involuntarily became a member of the 80s Hollywood teen group the Brat Pack. The Brat Pack films back then were St. Elmo’s Fire and Pretty In Pink. What made these films memorable were the soundtrack that came with the movies – songs that were considered part of the new wave era back then.

On July 24, 2008, Thursday, 7:30 PM, there will be a one-night-only showing of WarGames in selected theaters. This stars young Matthew Broderick and Ally Sheedy and the show includes never-before-seen interviews with the film’s creators and cast.

Address Tag

Jeff

I took this photo discreetly while I was riding a jeepney on my way to Makati. I sat across an old man who was accompanied by his wife. What caught my attention was what was tattooed on his arm. It was an address and his name. I'm not sure if it was his home address but probably it was. Could he be someone suffering from an illness mentally that sometimes causes him to forget things? But he looked well and so normal. I really have no other idea why someone would tattoo that on himself. But whatever the reason is, I just wanted to share one of my daily commuting experiences.

Caught By the Wind

Jeff

Lately, I have been looking at notebooks because I'm seriously looking into buying one. This is after my wife told me that she asked her mom, who just left for Texas last Friday, if she could buy a notebook for me, which we will be paying for, of course. My wife said that her mom sort of agreed and that gave me a sort of a go signal to start searching for the best one, not necessarily having very high specs but should be a good buy. Well, this morning, as I was surfing the net for the specs of the ASUS Eee PC 900 (which was the first one I considered), because it would really be fit for my mobility, I ran into this notebook by MSI it just caught my attention. You see, I travel a lot and it would really help me to have a notebook with me, especially as I keep up with my lesson preparations for the bible college class that I teach every Wednesday and Friday afternoon, and as I usually carry the church's CPU to and from our church, which is on the third floor, every time I go to my church office in Makati. My wife has an MSI Megabook but she wouldn't allow me to carry it around because I usually take public transportation and also, she uses it for her blogging business (she prefers it over my desktop because hers is faster). So with those things in mind, I have really thought about buying a notebook.

The MSI Wind U100 was the one that caught my attention. First, because it is close to our target price range. Second was because of its size and weight. It features a 10-inch LCD screen which has a 1024 x 600-pixel resolution, weighing only 2.3 lb. It utilizes the 1.6 GHz Intel Atom processor which uses a brand new design structure -- new hafnium-infused circuitry -- which reduces electrical current leakage in transistors -- to conserve energy, giving more time away from the wall outlet -- up to 3 hours with the included 3-cell battery. It also features an 80GB hard drive (which can be upgraded to 320GB as I saw in PC Corner's site), 1 GB of installed RAM (expandable to 2GB), internal stereo speakers, a multi-format card reader(• 4-in-1 memory card reader, compatible with Secure Digital (SD), MultiMediaCard (MMC), Memory Stick, and Memory Stick Pro), three USB ports, a VGA monitor port and a Kensington lock port.

Aside from this, the WIND, which stands for Wi-Fi Network Device, is already available here in the Philippines. It runs OS X and according to the hardware profiler, the MSI Wind U100 spoofs the system into thinking it's a Mac Pro. PC Corner says that a few tweaks renders the Wind fully functional, giving access to a $600 Mac.

So, with all these researched, I do plan to get one as soon as I am able to. We have started planning for it.

Reading Glasses For Me, Too?

Jeff

Lately, my wife has been having problems with eye strain in one of her eyes, probably due to being constantly in front of her laptop. This made me think about my eyesight. I thought that maybe 15-20 years from now I may need to start wearing reading glasses. Both my parents started to use one when I was in college - they were about 45-50 years old then. There is a high possibility that I would end up that way, too. I hope that by that time Zenni Optical $ 8 Rx Eyeglasses still exist. I like the Incredible Stylish New Frames From Zenni because they are not expensive. The Variable Dimension Frames From Zenni don't cost much because Zenni Optical manufactures them and sells them directly to customers. I wonder what age my 20/20 vision would last?

Back to Footballing

Jeff
For the past two weeks I have been able to get back to playing football once a week. I was able to arrange with my wife a once-a-week exercise schedule for myself and I'll be playing football every Thursday night at Marikina Sports Park with my some of my team mates from Marikina United FC. We actually played a tune up game against Claret Alumni the Saturday before last and boy how I missed playing soccer. I also got updated on the latest from my team - they are actually organizing a one-day soccer tournament with 3 or four of our regular team contacts at Marikina Sports Park on July 13, 2008. Too bad I won't be able to join them anymore on Sundays. But I'm still glad I can get to play once a week, and get to exercise. I actually gained about 8 pounds druing the 3-4 months I wasn't able to play. But now, I'm back!

Where Merchants and Shoppers Meet

Jeff

Do you have a product or a store that you want to advertise? Or do you want to get personal with your customers and need a venue in the world wide web that gives you the environment to meet potential shoppers? An online melting pot for merchants and shoppers is iEmporium Promotions. Here you can experience this by first becoming a member of the site and you can interact with other members who could possibly be a merchant just like you, or a potential client or business partner. You can do this through their Who-IM. It is an instant messenger for their site and you can IM or instant message someone by clicking their picture I their Who-IM box and typing your message in. This site makes business and transactions feel like a regular social interaction online. The products, members and companies seem very wholesome and I find this site family friendly. They also help promote fundraisers, have an adspace for good causes and members can join existing groups or start their own group to get their target audience together. It also has forums where you can start you own discussion and wait for someone to engage you. Visit this site and find out more.

Having Fun With Vista Mizer and ObjectDock Plus

Jeff

I recently installed VistaMizer 2.5.2.0 in my PC and added ObjectDock Plus and now this is how my desktop looks like. It now has a Windows Vista appearance and some of its components like the page elements on the side. The ObjectDock Plus gave me floating icons which can be customized. I can choose which icons I want on the dock/s. A dock can be placed on the top, bottom, left side and/or right side of the desktop (I have a dock on top for my shortcuts and the dock on the bottom for the windows currently opened - I just minimized the windows). I'm having fun with it right now.
